Priyanka Gandhi took to the wheel even as elder brother and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi sat next to her after the two landed in his constituency Amethi Friday.

Priyanka and Rahul reached the Fursatganj airport in Sultanpur district at around 11 a.m. After getting out of the airport, she sat in the driver�s seat of the green Toyota Qualis and set out for Amethi to meet Congress functionaries and Women�s Self Help Groups (SHGs).

�She insisted on driving the vehicle and Rahul took the adjacent seat. They reached Angrawaan village of the Gauriganj block at around 12.30 p.m. to attend a meeting of the SHGs,� state Congress spokesperson A.P. Singh told IANS.

They spent about an hour with the women and left for Munshiganj, he said.

However, the media was kept about 4 km away from the VIP cavalcade as there had been a reported security breach earlier this year.

According to sources, the office of the secretary (security) had issued a letter to the state government Oct 27 regarding the security concerns of the family, which is protected by the Special Protection Group.

The letter cited serious incidents of security breach following which the state government beefed up the security for this visit. A reply to the letter was also sent by the state government.

�Strict instructions have been issued to the district magistrates and the superintendents of police of all districts where they (Priyanka and Rahul) will go,� additional director general of police (law and order) A.K. Jain told reporters.

While Rahul will leave for Delhi Friday evening, Priyanka will be participating in other similar programmes Saturday, Singh added.

Amethi is about 200 km from Lucknow.

Birth control vaginal ring launched in India

Making the contraceptive procedure simpler for women, a US based pharmaceutical company Wednesday launched a birth control vaginal ring that it claims has no side effects.

Launched by pharmaceutical company Organon, Nuvaring is a flexible, transparent ring made of inert plastics. The ring contains hormones that enter the bloodstream directly, thus inhibiting ovulation.

"Nuvaring makes the contraception procedure simpler for women. Instead of taking a pill every day, the ring needs to be inserted once every week. Three weeks of insertion followed by one week ring-free interval is the procedure that needs to be repeated every month for a continued contraceptive effect," said Urvashi Jha, director of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Max Healthcare.

K.G. Ananthakrishnan, managing director of Organon (India), said: "Around 20 percent women use contraceptives in India. The ring will be good as does not have any side effects and will not cause obstruction in any other routine activity."

Woman gives birth 13 years after being sterilised!

A Brit woman was stunned to find out she was six months pregnant with her fourth child - because she had been sterilised 13 years back.

Debbie Amos, 43, had become pregnant with her first son, Glen, who is now 19, after a course of fertility treatment and after his birth she and her husband Melvyn, 57, decided not to try for any more.

However, she gave birth to two more and following that she asked doctors to give her an operation to ensure she would not become pregnant again.

Doctors had warned the couple that sterilisation might only be 99 percent effective, but both took it for granted that it would work out.

When Debbie came to know she was pregnant with her fourth child, she was a little apprehensive because of her age, but felt relief after Connor, was born healthy at Colchester General Hospital weighing 8lb 8ozs.

"We were very relieved he is fit and healthy. I didn't have any tests as I didn't know I was pregnant until so late on and there were obviously added risks because of my age," the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

"My doctor said maybe the tube had grown back, but we don't know.

"My husband was thinking about retiring from his job as a transport manager when he was 60 but that won't be happening now," she said.

But she stated she had no regrets about the unexpected arrival.

"Obviously, I would not be without him for anything now, but it has been a massive shock. Maybe he was just meant to be here," she added
