Default Top 5 Knocks of IPL 2

Match winning knocks of IPL 2

We saw some exceptional cricket in the last 37 days where players of all age-groups and nationality played some brilliant knocks.

Be it Rohit Sharma's finishing touch in the match against Knight Riders or Dwayne Bravo's unbeaten 70 runs against Kings XI Punjab. They were too many to count.

When Christmas came early for Gilly

Deccan Chargers who had started the tournament on a high note had slipped in between somewhere. But their captain Adam Gilchrist shepherded them well. While the captain played some good knocks throughout the tournament, he perhaps saved his best for the semi-finals that was against tournament favourites Delhi Daredevils.

Chasing a target of 154 runs for the final berth, Gilchrist came like a hurricane toyed with a bowling-attack that was hailed as one of the best of the league event. The Adam Bomb exploded making 85 off 35 balls.

He also became the first player to make the fastest fifty in any form of cricket as he took just 17 balls to raise his fifty. During his hurricane knock he struck ten boundaries and five sixes. With an innings like that, the win was just a formality.

    Manish Unleashed

Three matches ago, not many knew who he was. It took Manish Pandey just one knock to turn everyone's head and take notice.

Bangalore's Manish Pandey came at number five and made unbeaten 114 runs off just 73 balls. His century took the score to 170, which proved to be too much for the Chargers. During his innings he slammed ten fours and four sixes.

With this knock he became the first Indian to slam an IPL century in the two editions of the tournament.

He carried his touch to the semi-final against Chennai Super Kings to make 45 runs off 35 balls and guide his side to the final.

    Matt-Attack

Chennai Super Kings opener Mathew Hayden was in his prime form and scored consistently to emerge as the highest scorer of the tournament. He gave quite a many brilliant starts to his side but we pick his knock against Kings XI Punjab as his best.

Chennai who hold a record of beating Punjab in all the matches that they have played against each other and Hayden made sure they won their fifth encounter as well.

The former Australian opener made 89 runs off 58 runs. The highlight of the match was his battle with Sreesanth. He thrashed the maverick pacer with his gigantic shots. Exchange of stares, words and skill. Sreesanth finally managed to pick his wicket but with a winning knock like that it was Hayden who had the last laugh.

    Pathan Power

And when we are talking about the top knocks, how can Yusuf Pathan miss the bus? The Baroda Blaster was one of the main architects of Rajasthan Royals initial success. In the 18th league match, Rajasthan were up against Delhi.

Chasing a target of 144 runs, Rajasthan Royals top order failed to fire, with Smith being an exception. They were struggling at 64 for 5 when Yusuf walked out to bat with 80 needed off 53 balls. He joined Smith and the duo coolly steered their side to a 5-wicket win.

Yusuf dealt Delhi bowlers in boundaries and took just 30 balls for his unbeaten 62 runs. He hit three boundaries and six skiers to see his side flying high.

    Taylor-made victory
Bangalore's Ross Taylor played his knock of the tournament against the Knight Riders. Chasing a mammoth target of 174 runs, Taylor made an unbeaten 81 runs off just 33 balls.

Hitting seven fours and five sixes, Taylor snatched victory from the clutches of defeat.

What coincided with his blaze was Bangalore's dream-run in the Indian Premier League that took them to the final.
