Thumbs up Women’s Cricket team exudes optimism

    Jhulan Goswami

The Indian women’s team exuded optimism on the eve of its departure to

England for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup commencing on June 11. “We have

a balanced team with many all-rounders and we are hoping to do well. We

haven’t had much cricket after the World Cup in Australia in March but we

have prepared well at the National Cricket Academy here during our camp,”

said skipper Jhulan Goswami at a press conference at the Chinnaswamy

    Stadium premises here on Wednesday.

stronger teams like Australia and New Zealand. “I do agree that players from

Australian and New Zealand are taller and stronger than us but cricket is

strength to cope with these teams. It’s all about playing good cricket and we

fingers crossed. England, Australia, New Zealand and India are the stronger

teams and we fancy our chances,” Jhulan said.

    Strategies in place

Coach Sudha Shah said that the team had got its strategies in place ahead of the premier tournament.

“We played the under-17 boys and tried different combinations and

techniques and, as Jhulan said, having all-rounders helps and we can be

flexible with our batting order. We have just played two Twenty20 games

before — won against England and lost to Australia, but we are confident of

coping with the format,” she said.

Diana Edulji, who is accompanying the team as its manager, stressed on the

need to stay focussed and not get bogged down with thoughts about the
