Mr dhoni got scared because Deepika was in the stands and did not want to get hit with a bouncer

Dhoni has big attitude problem and he is too confident of his experiments.
Short balls is a permanant weakness of indian players which gets hidden on docile home pitches but gets exposed each time we tour abroad....only naturally technical batsmen like Sachin, Dravid etc. can play.

Remember, Dhoni is the same person who didnt care for padmashri award & didnt attend it bcoz of his ads shoot...how can that moron care for team & win??

    Default Dhoni magic waning ..

Has the MS Dhoni magic waned? Is he no more Captain Cool? These were the main topics of discussion after India’s seven-wicket defeat against the West Indies on Friday at Lord’s. It is not time to press the panic button yet, but the last fortnight would certainly be ranked as the toughest in Dhoni’s two years as Indian captain.

Perhaps, Dhoni too has a role in bringing that situation upon himself. The Jharkhand player had led the entire Indian squad to a press conference in a show of unity to deny allegations of a rift between him and Virender Sehwag. But while staging a protest that bordered on melodrama – however justifiable the step was from players’ point of view – Dhoni and his wards had made it mandatory for themselves to perform in every match.

Even under normal circumstances, the Indian public expects nothing less than a win from the team every time, but the extraordinary step might just have raised their expectations to unprecedented levels. Dhoni, owner of an astute mind, was aware of the situation.

“There always have been expectations. But this time it is very high since we are the defending champions.

But we have to think more about preparations than expectations, and can’t rest on something that had happened in the past, and that too two years ago,” Dhoni said.

    Flashy youngster

The captain too has undergone a lot of changes in the last couple of years.

He is no more that flashy youngster with long locks who led India to victory in the inaugural World T20 Championship in South Africa in 2007, but a seasoned statesman with a few grey streaks on his hair and beard.

Dhoni was appointed the captain for the previous T20 mega event during India’s third Test against England at the Oval, and his press conferences was dotted with laughter and droll as India witnessed a different captain – young, dynamic and candid – and a different Team India, touted as warriors from Youngistan.

But the scenario has changed two years down the line, Dhoni has put on the role of a serious thinker, and you hardly get to see that bright smile and witty answers in a media conference these days.

The strain of captaining and keeping wickets in all three formats of the game, and also shouldering the responsibility of a premier batsman have, perhaps, taken its toll on his mind and body.

However, it is a tribute to his mental strength and powers of concentration that Dhoni has not broken down yet while carrying all those responsibilities.

The lofty ambitions of public and a cricket calendar that does not seem to have full stop have not made his life any simpler either.

A combination of all these factors might have led Dhoni, very much his own man, to opt out of the Test series against Sri Lanka in mid 2008, and the unprecedented move had then created a huge furore with some even posing questions about his commitment to the country and cricket. But he might have realised the importance of giving his mind and body a break from cricket, otherwise Indian cricket might have had to do without Dhoni for a longer period.

Here the role of coach Gary Kirsten too has to be mentioned as the South African firmly backed Dhoni with his inputs.

    Undisputed leader

That ability to take decisions and stick to them makes Dhoni a good captain, and in the last two years he has been improved a lot as the undisputed leader of the pack. There is nothing in life and cricket that stays constant, and that is true especially when it comes to luck. There are signs that the winds are not exactly in favour of Indians.

Dhoni’s captaincy and man-management skills will be subjected to severe test, if not already in the on-going ICC World Twenty20 Championship, at some point in future.

The handling of the situation will have a huge say in determining Dhoni’s placing among the Indian captains. However, it is not just his personality and captaincy that has changed, Dhoni, the batsman, too has transformed since 2007.

It will be a little tough to remember when we have last seen Dhoni playing a brazen innings something that endeared him to millions of cricket fans at the blooming stage of his career.

Those remarkable swivel shots and thundering hits over long on and long off have been shelved for a while now with smart nudges and quick singles replacing them.

The new Dhoni may not quicken your heart beats, but his effectiveness remains intact.

However, in the T20 format, probably, he will have to speed things a little more and his body will not raise any objections since he has to do it only for a short period.

“There have been changes in the last two years – some things for good and some things for bad. It has been an interesting journey over the last two years and I picked up so many things about the game, players around and about myself as well,” Dhoni said with that characteristic wide smile resurfacing for a fleeting moment reflecting the inner strength of a remarkable man.
