Marisa Tomei - My Cousin Vinny

Whether an urban myth or not, the story goes something like this: In 1992, nominated up against the likes of Vanessa Redgrave and Miranda Richardson, Brooklyn native Marisa Tomei won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Joe Pesci's nagging Brooklynite girlfriend in "My Cousin Vinny." According to lore, aging presenter Jack Palance had been unable to read the envelope, and simply said her name because it was the last to appear on his teleprompter.

In any case, having recently purchased a new set of breasts – featured quite prominently in last year's "The Wrestler" – we'd feel silly not including Tomei somewhere on our list.

    Kim Basinger - LA Confidential

Before falling off the face of the Earth, releasing humiliating voicemails of her ex-husband and starring in horrible films like "The Sentinel," Kim Basinger was one of Hollywood's most sought after, mainstream sex-symbol actresses.

After taking home the 1997 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in "LA Confidential," however, Basinger became one of the few actresses whose career actually seemed to suffer from the accolade. Perhaps, Like Halle Berry, Basinger figured she no longer needed to appear topless in films, having won the world's most prestigious film awar

Gwyneth Paltrow - Shakespeare in Love

Speaking of going topless, while Gwyneth Paltrow's semi-nude love scene with Joseph Fiennes in "Shakespeare in Love" was no-doubt obligatory, no one could deny that it was Paltrow's affected English accent responsible for her 1999 Best Actress win.

Alas, having previously bared her top half in the abhorrently bad "Flesh and Bone" (with Meg Ryan no less!), Paltrow, like Basinger, would never again reveal her funbags on film for the sake of art.

    Damn you, Oscar.

Jodie Foster - The Accused, Silence of the Lambs

Ok...so there are few things going against Jodie Foster being considered a "hot" actress.

For one, there's her intelligence. Definitely not sexy. For another, there's the fact that in almost all of her films, she plays either a woman victimized by men, or, more recently, a woman victimizing the men who victimized her man.

Female empowerment aside, in addition to well deserving both of her Best Actress Oscars (for 1988's "The Accused" and 1991's "Silence of the Lambs"), right up until 2007's "The Brave One," Foster represented one of Hollywood's most enigmatically beautiful actresses. With pixie-esque features, eyes of purest azure and a compact, petite frame, it's indeed curious she was never able to land a husband.

Jane Fonda - Klute, Coming Home

Oh what it must've been like to be alive in America during the early 1970's. The political unrest; the horrible fashions; the bad hair...all leading to the now infamous mid-to-late 70's era of disco, gas lines, and even more horrible fashions and hairstyles.

Embodying early 70's zeitgeist to a T (by way of, among other things, extremely bad accessorizing), Jane Fonda won her first of two Academy Awards in 1972 for playing a terrorized prostitute in the film "Klute." The win cemented Fonda's status as legitimate actress, coming just 3 years after her role as an intergalactic stripper-assassin in "Barbarella."

Fonda would win the Oscar again in 1977, playing a woman who finds the ability to receive orgasm from a paraplegic in the aptly titled "Coming Home." God bless you Ms Fonda...no matter what the Vietnam vets say.

    Nicole Kidman - The Hours

It took a fake nose and an oversized, frumpy dress to make Nicole Kidman look convincing as suicidal closet lesbian poet Virginia Woolf in 2002's "The Hours." Winning the following year for Best Actress – over hotties Salma Hayek and Diane Lane no less – Kidman has yet to be nominated again for an Oscar, despite Academy worthy performances in films such as "Cold Mountain," "Birth" and last year's "Australia."

Unfortunately for Kidman, suicidal closet lesbian poet roles are difficult to top.

    Angelina Jolie - Girl, Interrupted

It's likely that her current status as mother to SIX children is the only thing keeping Angelina Jolie from ranking higher on our list; this despite the fact her 2000 Oscar appearance made her far and away the most PG-13 rated recipient in the Academy's history.

While accepting her 1999 Oscar for playing the hot, incarcerated love interest to Winona Ryder in "Girl, Interrupted" (her win came shortly after confirming to the world she was bisexual in real life), Jolie mixed a hint of incest into the proceedings, exclaiming of her Oscar date, "I am so in love with my brother right now."

Of course that was the old, vial-of-blood wearing, naked in every other film, pre-Goodwill-Ambassador Jolie. She's matured a great deal in the years since winning her Academy Award.

Reese Witherspoon - Walk the Line

While we're quick to throw around damnation of the Oscars for their hand in keeping actresses from taking their clothes off, probably nobody has a bigger bone to pick the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences than Ryan Phillippe. With two children and – up until 2006 – two equally successful acting careers, a little over six months after Witherspoon won the Best Actress Oscar for "Walk the Line," it was announced that she and Phillippe would split after seven years of marriage.

Currently ranked the world's highest earning actress, Witherspoon is now dating Academy Award nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who just happens to be 6 years younger than Phillippe. She's expected to receive somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 million each for her next two feature film roles. Phillippe will likely continue starring in films no one will ever see, and is likely to hit "Dancing with the Stars" sometime around 2011.

    Charlize Theron - Monster

While South African born Charlize Theron is arguably among the most attractive women ever to win a Best Actress Oscar, the role for which she received the award is without a doubt the least attractive of all time.

Gaining a significant amount of weight, in addition to wearing extremely unflattering prosthetics for her role as lesbian prostitute serial killer Aileen Wurnos, Theron proved in 2004 that she was more than just a pretty face - that indeed, she was a chick who really, really wanted an Oscar...bad.

    Halle Berry - Monster's Ball

In 2002, after beating out the likes of Dame Judy Dench and Sissy Spacek for her role in "Monster's Ball", Halle Berry became the first African-American woman to win the coveted Best Actress award. In one of the most emotional acceptance speeches on record, Berry dedicated her Oscar to "Every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened."

Berry then walked through that open door, going on to star in the films "Gothika" and "Catwoman."

    Sophia Loren - Two Women

While me might not be old enough to remember Italian actress Sophia Loren's Best Actress win for "Two Women," we can still certainly give credit where credit is due. Isn't that what film was invented for in the first place?

Now 74-years-old and still, somehow, inexplicably hot, what made Loren's 1961 win even more noteworthy was the fact her fellow nominees represented not only the most beautiful actresses of their day, but indeed among the most beautiful of all time; To wit, a then 31 year-old Audrey Hepburn; a then 22 year-old Natalie Wood, and a then 29 year-old Piper Laurie. There was Geraldine Page too, but...nevermind.

And while many unfamiliar with Loren may balk at our selecting her as "hottest" Oscar winning actress of all time, we'd invite those skeptics to do a little online research before complaining.
