There are various stragegies to catch people off guard while drenching them with colors. Baloon filled with water color is quite common.
As kids, we used to have Holi wars with the neighbouring colonies. Balloons of colored water, lots of strange colour.. All in all, a lot of good fun! Preparations would start a month in advance. Getting the color pump cleane up etc. Most would remember throwing water balloons at people passing by from the building roof.
Holi is festival of special food as well. The kitchen is normally filled with delicious special treats for the festive air. Gujjias filled with great delicacies are very special.
