Red face Erykah Badu Gets Naked in Her New Window Seat Video

Grammy Award-winning singer Erykah Badu has always been considered somewhat eccentric. But her latest music video for her song 'Window Seat' -- in which she removes all of her clothes -- has created a firestorm of controversy. 'Inside Edition' (weekdays, syndicated) has the scoop.

In the music video -- which was shot in a single take -- Badu walks through Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas. Dealey Plaza was the site of the murder of President John F. Kennedy, and footage of JFK is incorporated into the video.

The video shows Badu taking off all of her clothing, and then shows her being killed by an unseen gunman. And since the video was shot without a permit, children and other unsuspecting bystanders were present in the plaza when Badu removed her clothes. Police are considering charging Badu with indecent exposure.

The video was reportedly shot "guerrilla style" in one take with no crew and no city permits.

Some are upset that the 39-year-old singer stripped down in front of minors.

Others think the JFK tie-in was in poor taste.

"Some people may call it art. It is freedom of expression. I just think it's classless and tasteless.

I think it's inappropriate and I like Erykah Badu, so it's not like I'm anti-her," tourist Kamili Miller and Dallas resident Dorothy Williams told KDAF-TV.

Badu said the video was a "protest" and "about liberating yourself," The Dallas Morning News reported, adding that she chose Dealey Plaza as the backdrop because "the grassy knoll was the most monumental place in Dallas."

"I tied it in a way that compared the assassination to the character assassination one would go through after showing his or her self completely," she said.

"That's exactly the action I wanted to display."

Badu's video debuted at 3:03 a.m. Sunday on her Web site.

Neosoul singer Erykah Badu faces a disorderly conduct charge for her nude music video shoot in downtown Dallas' Dealey Plaza, officials announced Friday.

Badu, a Dallas native, performed a walking striptease in front of tourists and pedestrians during the March 13 shoot for Badu's "Window Seat" music video. The performance ended with a nude Badu acting out receiving a fatal gunshot to the head at the spot where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.

Sgt. Warren Mitchell said Friday the decision to cite Badu for disorderly conduct – a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 – came after witness Ida Espinosa, 32, of Vernon, offered a sworn statement to police Thursday. Espinosa declined to comment to The Associated Press on Friday.

"Having a fact witness that was there is what let us file the charges," Mitchell said. "After much discussion, we feel that these charges best fit her conduct. She disrobed in a public place without regard to individuals and small children who were close by."

Mitchell said the department has had "people calling from all across the country to express their concern."

Mitchell said Badu can either fight the charge or pay the fine. He said a citation would be mailed to the singer.
