Arrow Asia CUP 2010 - Sensitivity & Self Respect

The Asia Cup is an international One Day International cricket tournament. It was established in 1983 when the Asian Cricket Council was founded as a measure to promote goodwill between Asian countries. It was originally scheduled to be held every two years. The first tournament was held in 1984 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates where the council's offices were based (until 1995). The International Cricket Council has ruled that all games played for the Asia Cup have official One Day International status. India along with Sri Lanka has lifted the Asia cup the most times (four). India appeared in every final apart from the 1986 (India pulled out due to strained cricketing relations with Sri Lanka), 1993 (when it was cancelled due to strained political relations between India and Pakistan) and 2000 cups. Sri Lanka, however, have appeared in every final since the cup's inception. The ACC have announced that the tournament will be held biennially from 2008 onwards.

    1. As india has never won it after 1995 ; and with shame ful performance in Zimbabwe - Indians will b eager to hold the Trophy and prove a point

    2. Sri Lanka , thw fornt runner from last three seasons and this time also they want to make it four times in a row

    3. Bangla Desh - a New team with some good invidual performances in England will help them to dream of lifting the trophy and be come out of the shadows of minnows

    4. Pakistan - Match fixing rows ,Axing of Senior players and then a U turn to all the things has created a dark and moist environments , so pak team has a point to prove with newly appointed captain for all three formats , and with so much ambiguity in team combination

A day ahead of India's departure to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup, MS Dhoni has said the tournament presents a chance to start zeroing in on the combination for the 2011 World Cup.

Dhoni and several other senior members of the Indian team have had a month away from the treadmill of top-flight cricket, and will join several youngsters such as offspinner R Ashwin and quick bowler Ashok Dinda for the competition in Dambulla.

"This is the time, with 8-10 months to go for the World Cup, when you can make a few changes," Dhoni said in Chennai. "Once we get closer we want to play with a fixed side and give them more exposure, get them more used to the conditions."

Over the past few years, most venues in the subcontinent have laid out batsmen-friendly tracks for one-dayers but Dambulla, which hosts all matches of the Asia Cup, remains one of the exceptions. "It is an important tournament. We'll (seniors) be playing one-day cricket after quite a long time," Dhoni said. "Conditions will be a bit different, Dambulla is not one of the high-scoring venues, it will be important to keep that in the back of the head."

Our team should be united - Afridi

Shahid Afridi, the Pakistan captain, has asked his team-mates to be united on the field and off it as they left Karachi to take part in the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

The tournament, involving Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be the first assignment for Afridi's team ahead of a busy summer in England, where they will play Australia and England.

"What has happened cannot be changed," said Afridi, referring to the turbulent last few months.

"What we can do is ensure that past mistakes are not repeated. We cannot afford to be a bickering lot and the only way we can give our best is by staying united. What I want is that our team should be united on the field and off it.
"I know the importance of having frequent team meetings. It's also important for all the players to dine together as much as possible and discuss issues openly because these are the things that help boost team spirit."

Shahid Afridi has said one of his immediate priorities as Pakistan's new captain is to ensure his players aren't guilty of any unruly behaviour while on tour.

Pakistan cricket has had its reputation in tatters of late with a history of infighting within the team and Afridi sent out a warning to his team-mates before departing for the Asia Cup that any indiscipline will not be tolerated.

The squad for the tournament in Sri Lanka includes two controversial players in Shoaib Malik and Shoaib Akhtar, who have been accused of either flouting team rules or creating rifts within the team.

Afridi said he had a word with both in particular and expected them to set a better example going forward.

"In the training camp I spoke to Shoaib and also Malik and explained the new set of rules that we expect them to follow in the team," Afridi told reporters in Lahore." I explained that being senior players I require their support to introduce a new culture in the team.

"The board has also made it clear that the captain and manager have full authority to take action against any player they feel is getting out of line."
