    'Godfather' house up for sale

It's the setting for the opening scene of one of the greatest movies in history.

The stately Tudor home where The Godfather wedding scene was filmed is for sale.

The same owners who opened their doors to Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and director Francis Ford Coppola for the classic film's opening scene nearly 40 years ago are selling the eight-bedroom, 4-1/2 bath house on New York's Staten Island for an asking price of $2.9million.

Fans of the Oscar-winning 1972 film, which spawned two sequels, recall the wedding of mob boss Don Corleone's daughter, Connie, played by Talia Shire, which opened the film.

As wedding guests danced and drank outside, in a darkened study inside the house Pacino's character, Michael, reveals the nature of his family's business.

The extended sequence, during which Corleone, played by Brando, delivers the famous line 'I'm gonna' make him an offer he can't refuse,' runs some 30 minutes of screen time.

Gianni Russo, a Staten Islander who played Carlo Rizzi in the film, was instrumental in getting the house selected for the wedding scene by the Paramount film's producer, Albert Ruddy, the realtor Connie Profaci Realty said.

The Godfather went on to win three Oscars, including one for Brando which he notoriously refused.

It is considered among the greatest American films of all time - second only, perhaps, to Citizen Kane.

An employee of the realtor said yesterday that the sellers were only the second owners of the 12-room, 6,250-square-foot house.

It also boasts an English pub in the basement, a four-car garage and the requisite swimming pool.

Owner James Norton says his mother kept many artifacts from the movie, including Brando's cue cards.

Realtor Connie Profaci says it needs some work, but the family is betting on the house's history as a selling point.

Actor Gianni Russo, who played Corleone son-in-law and turncoat Carlo Rizzi, grew up near the house and mentioned it to producers as an ideal location.

'I'm thinking of investing in it myself,' Russo said.

'I got married to Don Corleone's daughter in that yard. There is just so much there.
