The mythical white whale of the consumer electronics world might be making an appearance soon. A screenshot of AT&T's database indicates the white iPhone is coming.

There have been several rumors pointing to an imminent release of Apple's long-promised but never delivered white iPhone, but seeing it in the AT&T Online Account Management interface, courtesy of Boy Genius Report, is by far the most convincing evidence that the white iPhone is near.

The screenshot references an "iPhone 4 – 16GB White" and "iPhone 4 – 32GB White," along with all the other iterations of the iPhone available on the AT&T network in recent years.

AT&T's online tool didn't give any specific release dates, and speculation from industry experts forecasts a release in February or March 2011. Best Buy recently had white iPhones popping up in its retail system, so it appears that multiple retailers anticipate selling it soon.

While the many people who wanted a white iPhone 4 gave up and bought a black one, the white iPhone might launch in time to compete with the release of the Verizon iPhone in February (no official word yet on whether Verizon plans to sell it in white). It seems strange that people would worry over a choice between the Verizon network and a white iPhone, but if it really matches your handbag....
