Default 5 Things Team India Needs To Do Before The Next Test

No two ways about it--India were whipped, and whipped badly at Trent Bridge. A true test of their character as a team now lies ahead; will they wilt and go down without a fight, or will they come back roaring and wipe the smiles off the faces of the smug Englishmen?

Before they can hope to fight Broad, Bell, Bresnan & co's fire with fire, they're going to need to sort a few things out. Here's what team India needs to do before the 3rd Test on the 10th of August.

    Get Sehwag Ready

The destroyer from Delhi has been away from the game for quite a while now, and God only knows whether he's been training assiduously or hanging around in front of the TV eating pakodas. Hopefully it's the former, and Team India need to first make sure that he's 100% fit and ready to go (another mid-Test breakdown at this point would be catastrophic).

That's just half the battle though. Dhoni needs to call on his much-touted luck, make India bat first in their 2-day warmup game against Northants this weekend, and then get Sehwag some practice against the swing, bounce and seam that has been the bane of the Indian batsmen this tour. With a fit and somewhat acclimated Sehwag, India's chances go from absolutely nonexistent to miniscule. And at this point, we'll take that

Fix Harbhajan, or Cut Him Loose

Is it the pitches? The Duke ball? Is his girlfriend acting up? Is he missing his mother's ghar ka khaana? Is Sreesanth's success annoying him? If permission to go over to Sree's room and give him one massive slap will make Bhajji feel and bowl better, so be it.

Whatever's ailing Harbhajan, India need to fix it--and fast. If the pitch looks like it won't assist him, maybe a 4-seamer attack is warranted. Or perhaps pull a bit of a wild card and include Mishra in the squad for some surprise leg-spin magic?

    Get Gambhir Back

No two ways about it: Dravid has served Indian cricket too long and too hard to be forced into an opener position he only accepts reluctantly for the good of the team, and Mukund is clearly in over his head.

India. Need. Gambhir. Once the pugnacious Dilliwalla is back at the top of the order, it doesn't even matter if he doesn't get that many runs. His main job is to see off the shine on the new ball and tire out England's bowlers so the batsmen to come can plunder at will. And he's a quality player, so he's bound to come good in at least one of the 4 innings he has left to play

Only Play Zaheer if He's 100% Ready and Fit

Rushing him back will do more harm than good, and the rest of the quicks (we use that term very loosely) have shown that they can take wickets in spurts. While it's a huge disadvantage if he isn't back, having him return only to break down again will be devastating.

All signs, however, point to him coming back--and more than a little pissed off and ready to wreak havoc with the red cherry. So keep your fingers crossed

    Get Dhoni His Mojo Back

Captain Dhoni can only do so much with the resources he has at hand, but there really are no excuses for his form with the bat. He's a naturally aggressive player, and we feel that one free-flowing 30 or 40 in as many balls is all it's going to take to get him back in the thick of things.

Let's hope that innings comes this weekend against Northants, because India can't have him in the team solely as a good captain and average wicketkeeper--they need his help with the bat too.

Disagree? Feel we left something out? Let us know in the comments below, will you?
