Arrow ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ story leaked!

Though the film releases this week, the story of the Katrina Kaif-Imran Khan-Ali Zafar starrer has been held back for longer than we expected. Now we know…

It would not take a rocket scientist to figure out the story of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, but as our source told us about it with such pride, we thought we might as well share it with you. You may have heard that Imran Khan was not in the least bit interested in doing this film. We hear that after reading the cheesy title, he was totally turned off, and had put the script aside.

Only after his mom read the script and liked it did he even consider going through it again. Imran returns to charm-mode with his chocolate boy looks in this light-hearted but twisted tale of love.

The film also stars Katrina Kaif and Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar in lead roles. Set in the milieu of an urban middle class family, the quirky comedy deals with two brothers – Luv Agnihotri (Ali Zafar) and Kush Agnihotri (Imran Khan). While Kush works as an assistant director in the film industry (have we seen that one before? Remember I Hate Luv Storys?), his elder brother Luv works as an investment banker in London.
A casanova by heart, Luv realises he wants to get married and settle down with an Indian girl. Kush is given the task of bride hunting for his brother and, during this quest, he encounters some wacky and funny situations. Finally he meets Dimple Dixit (Katrina), who likes to lead a life with no boundaries. She is also from London, but is a true Indian at heart.

Dimple is the craziest girl Kush has ever met. So while everything is finalised and preparations are in full swing, Kush realises he has fallen in love with his brother’s ‘dulhan’. This is followed by a string of comical and predictable events – which forms the major part of the film. Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is inspired from matrimonial ads and the writer-director Ali Abbas Zafar has woven his story around those. It is said that Zafar was also inspired by Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Chupke Chupke and Golmaal. We hear also that the delectably delicious but dramatically-challenged John Abraham makes a friendly appearance. You have been warned.

Arrow Movie Review: Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

‘Mere Brother ki Dulhan’ belongs entirely to Katrina Kaif!

“Movie belongs to Katrina. Otherwise the film is okay, funny in parts and with tacky dialogues in some places. The cinematography is good.” The film, produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films and written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, has John Abraham in a cameo role. It is essentially a romantic comedy set around a love triangle and has already found a huge audience because of the song Dhunki, which shows off Katrina in a rock-chick avatar.

MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN oscillates between mundane to sad after showing an initial spark of brilliance. So much time wasted in the 'I love you' nonsense that in the last scene, you feel sorry for the dads of the boy and girl. Continuous references to old YRF films too don't add value. In fact, it is like making mockery out of an already juvenile scene.

There's not much on offer in this film. Whatever is there is finished off in the first half hour. After that it drags. The twist in the tale, too, is far-fetched, not becoming of an intelligent love story. Sad, because it had talent in the form of Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif. And even though Katrina is having the time of a life in a care-free role, it is Ali Zafar, who plays Imran Khan's older brother, who steals the lightning and thunder. Ali is an assertive actor who has a confident body language. He speaks even before he utters a word - with his actions. He is the only bright spark in this film. Dynamite stuff.

Luv (Ali Zafar) is the casanova brother of Kush (Imran Khan). Luv works in London, while Kush is an assistant director in Hindi films. After one more of his many break-ups, Luv phones his brother asking him to find a bride for him because he wants to marry before Christmas and he has proved to be a failure in choosing the right girl. How many months before Christmas this call was made, the director fails to establish. Luv's reasoning of asking his brother to find him a dulhan is simple - their tastes have always been similar. As kids, they both loved Madhuri Dixit!

Kush tries innovative ways to meet Luv's request. Luv gets his Dulhan, Dimple Dixit (Katrina Kaif), who Kush likes. Luv comes to India and then the plot moves into predictable zone. No need to guess here.

SORRY BHAI (pun intended), this is just not working.

    Rating - 2/5
