    Default Hollywood's Toughest Action Stars

Every once in a while, it's fun to settle down and watch a brainless action flick that is little more than an excuse for the hero to show off his body and blow up stuff. Over the years, there have been a few icons who've played the action hero part seamlessly, and have cemented their spots in the tough guy hall-of-fame.

Here are Hollywood's toughest action stars

    Sylvester Stallone

Sly aka Rambo, Rocky, and the Italian Stallion is known to fans all over the world quite simply as one of the greatest action stars of all time. After struggling for a few years, Stallone finally made it big in 1976 with the smash hit film 'Rocky.' Since then he never looked back, and featured in hit after hit.

What's more, he also wrote and directed several of these hit films. He also happens to be one of the rare few to have been nominated for both the best actor Oscar and the worst actor Razzie awards during his career

    Jason Statham

Who would've thought the tea-sipping, crumpet-eating Brits could produce a world-class action hero like him? Since his successful debut in Guy Ritchie's 'Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels,' he's made a successful transition to mainstream Hollywood. This former world-level diver has one of the most ripped physiques in showbiz, and it comes in handy when he's performing his gritty fight scenes.

His 'Transporter' series is a cult classic, and a must-watch for any hardcore action movie fan

    Dolph Lundgren

This mild-mannered Swedish chemical engineer somehow wound up becoming a big time action star. Of course, his muscular 6' 6" frame and years of martial arts training probably helped just a little! After years of playing the bad guy--most notably Ivan Drago in 'Rocky IV,' Lundgren finally bagged the starring role in 'The Punisher' in 1984 and never looked back since.

Fun fact about Lundgren: He has an IQ of around 160. In other words, he's got both brains and brawn

    Jean-Claude Van Damme

Also known as the Muscles from Brussels, he started off as a professional kickboxer and martial artist and soon made the move to the big screen. Initially, he had to take up small roles and was even featured in a negative role in a couple of films.

But when 'Bloodsport' released in 1988, everyone instantly became a Van Damme fan! His popularity peaked when 'Universal Soldier' came out in 1992

    Jackie Chan

This Hong Kong-born legend is a true global action superstar. With his well-timed moves and priceless expressions, it's hard not to root for Jackie when he's up against a much bigger opponent.

Although he's been around since the early 1970s, he crossed over into the action-comedy genre with 'Rush Hour' back in 1998. Since then, he's starred in many more Hollywood movies and will be seen later this year in the epic Chinese historical drama 1911, which he co-produced as wel

    Bruce Lee

The guy who could beat Chuck Norris had to be someone special, and he sure was! Prior to his premature death in 1973, Bruce Lee brought martial arts to mainstream cinema. His style and form were unmatched, and continues to be one of the most influential action stars in history.

If you're a true action movie fan, you have to have watched 'Enter The Dragon' and 'Fist Of Fury!

    Arnold Schwarzenegger

While his political career might be all but over, his legacy as an action movie star will live on forever. He's the grandaddy of bodybuilding and is responsible for changing Hollywood's outlook towards extremely ripped men. He may have used steroids liberally during his bodybuilding days, but Arnold remains one of the most influential action stars of all time.

He starred in several must-watch actions movies including, 'Commando,' the Terminator series and 'Total Recall', among several others
