    Default Rania~ queen of jordan

Rania Al Abdullah is the current Queen consort of Jordan and is the wife of reigning king Abdullah II. She was born in Kuwait to Palestinian parents from Tulkarm. She attended school in Kuwait and graduated with a degree in Business administration from the American University in Cairo.

In 1991, when the first Gulf War broke out, her parents were forced to flee Palestine along with thousands of others. They resettled in Amman, Jordan, and Rania soon joined them after graduation. She worked in Citibank briefly in a marketing role before accepting another marketing job with Apple Inc. in Amman.

Since she became Queen, Rania has been an active figure in promoting education globally and empowering the Arab youth. Despite the glamour surrounding her position, she has remained grounded and used her position to advocate on behalf of innumerable causes. Her marriage to King Abdullah II of Jordan is nothing short of a fairytale and sometimes, it seems like it's straight out of a romantic novel. In January, 1993 Rania had accompanied a co-worker to a dinner party thrown by the Prince's sister where they met and fell in love. 2 months later the Prince announced their engagement and by June they were married. Now, the queen and the king are proud parents to four children.

In 1995, Queen Rania's first venture, the Jordan River Foundation was established. The program placed Children's welfare above political agendas and cultural beliefs. The foundation also launched a Child's Safety Program which helped Children who were at risk of abuse and violence. She helped increase public awareness about violence against children. Queen Rania has always believed that an important aspect of education was to equip the youth with skills to perform well at work.

The Al Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans was initiated and Rania ensured scholarships for Jordanian students studying abroad. At the 2008 World Economic Forum in Davos, she launched the "Empowering One Million Arab Youth by 2018" campaign which was conceived by INJAZ ARABIA.

The UNICEF, in recognition of the Queen's commitment to the cause of children and youth invited her to join its Global Leadership Initiative. She has worked alongside many inspirational world leaders, including former South African President Nelson Mandela and has been named UNICEF's first Eminent Advocate for Children. Queen Rania has always been the first to speak out about the importance of cross cultural dialogue to foster goodwill and greater understanding across the world.

She has been actively reaching out to the global community and has used her power and influence to correct many misconceptions about the Arab world. As part of her global campaign she launched a YouTube channel, a Facebook page and a Twitter account. She uses these social networking tools to encourage people to voice their opinions and to provide responses to these questions. She has posted videos on subjects like honor killings, terrorism and the role of women in the Arab world. For her inspirational peace work she was given the first ever YouTube Visionary Award in November 2008.

She's lovely, it's good to see someone putting their position to good usage.
