Default Best of IPL 2012: Mid-Tournament Report

    Best Coach: Eric Simons

While he's no longer India's bowling coach, this South African is making waves in the IPL. As the coach of the Delhi Daredevils, he's somehow managed to inspire a team that has not enjoyed a lot of success in the league. Whatever tactics he's using seem to be working at the moment. And although some might argue that he's got a great squad at his disposal, we'd like to point out that that has been the case with the Daredevils almost every year since the IPL started. Simons is getting the best out of his players--which is the hallmark of a great coach

    Best All-Rounder: James Franklin

This Kiwi all-rounder is arguably one of the most underrated players in the IPL. Given his flexible batting and handy bowling, he is a truly multi-purpose player for the Mumbai Indians. After batting in the lower middle order, Franklin's made a seamless transition to opening the innings for the Mumbai franchise. In seven games, he's scored 180 runs at an average of 36 in IPL 2012--which is far better than the rest of MI's openers.

He's also bagged four wickets on the five occasions that he's bowled

    Second Best Bowler: Lasith Malinga

Despite missing a couple of games due to injury, Slinga Malinga continues to do what he does best for the Mumbai Indians. The 29-year-old Sri Lankan is knocking over wickets at will even this year. In the six games that he's played so far, Malinga has bagged a stunning 15 wickets, including a four-for against the Deccan Chargers in Mumbai.

Only he can challenge Morne Morkel for the Purple Cap this year

    Best Bowler: Morne Morkel

He is the Delhi Daredevils' frontline pacer, and is one of the few foreign players in the league to not have missed a single game for his team this year. And, the way he's going, he's not likely to be dropped at all for the rest of the tournament.

This 27-year-old South African is currently in possesion of the Purple Cap, and it looks like he might just hold on to it for the rest of the year

    Second Best Batsman: Virender Sehwag

It may have taken some time for Viru to get back into his groove, but he certainly has made a big statement once he got his rhythm back. The Delhi Daredevils skipper has been on quite a roll, having scored five consecutive half-centuries for his team and currently holds the highest strike rate in the tournament.

It looks as though Sehwag magic might just do the trick for the Daredevils in IPL 2012.

    Best Batsman: Ajinkya Rahane

While his team is not exactly setting the IPL on fire, this Rajasthan Royals opener is dominating bowling attacks all over the league. The 23-year-old has already scored 458 runs in just ten innings this year. He also has two fifties and a big hundred to his name in IPL 2012.

If Rahane keeps at it, the Royals might just sneak a playoffs spot

    Best Team: Delhi Daredevils

After years of disappointment, it looks as though the Delhi Daredevils have finally found a winning formula. The capital city's franchise is miles ahead of the competition in IPL 2012, and have only lost two games this season thus far. While there was never any doubt about the firepower in their batting line-up, even their bowling unit has been formidable throughout the tournament.

From Kevin Pietersen, Ross Taylor and Morne Morkel to their skipper Virender Sehwag, it looks like the Daredevils have no weak links!
