    Default Best IPL Captains

    Adam Gilchrist

This legendary Aussie wicketkeeper-batsman's inspired leadership was the main reason behind Deccan Chargers' triumph in IPL 2009. The Hyderbad franchise had been all but written off following their last-place finish in IPL 2008, but Gilly had other idea. He inspired a group of determined youngsters--including Purple Cap winner, RP Singh--to outshine the rest of the field.

Gilchrist moved to Kings XI Punjab in 2011, and although he hasn't won big with them yet, he's certainly helped talented cricketers in the squad hone their skills in the middle.

    Shane Warne

Shane Warne was the only big name in the Rajasthan Royals' squad in IPL 2008. Little wonder why no one expected much from the team from Pink City back then. However, the true champion that Warnie is, he rallied from the front as his band of upstarts won the innaugural edition of the Indian Premier League.

The legendary off-spinner continued to captain and coach his side till last year. However, the high point of his career was the win in the finals in 2008 against the highly-favored Chennai Suepr Kings.

    Sourav Ganguly

After he was cast aside by the Kolkata Knight Riders, this former India captain's career was all but over. However, the determined fighter that he is, Dada decided to make a comeback with the Pune Warriors India last year. While he couldn't do much then after entering IPL 2011 after the halfway stage, he is certainly ensuring his team is not taken lightly by anyone this year.

Ganguly, who is leading his side in the absence of Yuvraj Singh, has turned his team's fortunes around. His confident leadership has led to PWI thrashing perrenial powerhouses like the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in their own back yard. No wonder, Dada is often regarded as India's best captain!

    Rahul Dravid

After Shane Warne stepped down from the helm, the Wall was his natural successor at Rajasthan Royals. However, much like when Warne took over the leadership role in Jaipur, even Dravid's XI was instantly dismissed prior to IPL 2012 only to prove everyone wrong. As the captain-coach of his side, the 39-year-old batsman seems to have found his groove in the shortest format of the game as he's scoring quite freely while opening the innings.

While at it, Dravid also seems to be grooming a certain Ajinkya Rahane--the current Orange Cap holder--who could very well be the Wall's replacement in Team India!

    MS Dhoni

Captain cool has won almost every major tournament in the cricketing world, including the IPL. In fact he's won this tournament twice, and for the first four seasons of the league has ensured that his side made the playoffs every single year! In fact, the only year, the Chennai Super Kings didn't play in the finals of the IPL was in 2009.

MSD deserves all the credit for his team's sheer dominance. While the Yellow Lions have had an indifferent tournament so far this year, they might just sneak into the playoffs again thanks to some Dhoni magic
