    CSK - Faf du Plessis

This South African opener was the only consistent performer in the CSK ranks this season. With their bowling falling way short of expectations, all the pressure was on this Protea to deliver at the top of the innings.

He did just that by scoring 398 runs in 12 innings during the regular season. Thanks to his impressive showing, du Plessis is bound to be a regular in the CSK line-up for the next few years

    DC - Dale Steyn

When it came to bowling, DC's performance was--to put it lightly--below par. However, one man stood out in this sea of mediocrity, and his name is Dale Steyn. The wiry pacer kept bowling a very probing line while those around him were fumbling for form.

Steyn, who had the league's best batters in trouble, ended up taking 18 wickets at an average of 15.83 in 12 games. His economy rate was also quite spectacular at a hair above six!

    DD - Morne Morkel

This lanky pacer is one of the cornerstones of DD's success in IPL 2012. While Morkel had excellent support from the likes of Varun Aaron, Irfan Pathan and even Shahbaz Nadeem, the South African single-handedly caused enough damage to mow down the best of opponents.

Morkel ended up taking 25 wickets in 15 league fixtures, averaged 16.64 runs per scalp, and bowled at an economy rate of 7.05 an over.

    KKR - Gautam Gambhir

KKR featured arguably their strongest side yet this year. From the masterful spin of Sunil Narine and the all-round genius of Jacques Kallis to a talented pool of young Indian cricketers, this team is as strong as they come. However, their leader Gautam Gambhir deserves MVP honors for leading his side past the best in the league.

The southpaw ended up scoring 556 runs in 15 regular season games this year. Besides, his leadership has also been brilliant throughout the season, and may just help KKR clinch their first IPL title

KXIP - David Hussey and Mandeep Singh

After Adam Gilchrist was ruled out due to a hamstring injury, fellow Australian David Hussey took over the reins of KXIP. The aggressive all-rounder made sure to lead from the front and gave his side a real hope of qualifying for the playoffs. Along with picking up some key wickets, Hussey also scored 396 runs in the regular season.

However, even 20-year-old Mandeep Singh deserves joint MVP honors. The Punjab batsman was his team's top scorer, getting 432 runs in 16 games. He certainly is a future star for his franchise!

    MI - Lasith Malinga

It's no secret that Slinga Malinga is the best Twenty20 bowler in the world. The Sri Lankan has, time and again, bowled those unplayable yorkers and knocked over the stumps of the best in the business. This former Purple Cap-winner picked up where he had left off last year and made sure MI was always in with a chance as long as he was bowling.

Malinga picked up 22 wickets in 13 games at an economy rate of six! With the playoffs on the horizon, he still has enough time to reclaim his Purple Cap from Morne Morkel.

    PWI - Robin Uthappa

While PWI were extremely disappointing yet again this season, their wicketkeeper-batsman was exceptional. Uthappa scored runs and kept wickets with aplomb all season long. He was one of the few true Warriors who fought till the bitter end.

He ended up tallying 405 runs in the 16 regular season games he played in IPL 2012.

    RCB - Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle not only deserves to be his team's MVP, but even the tournament MVP this year. The Jamaican opener was the sole reason RCB were in playoff contention till their very last (must-win) game--which they lost! Gayle scored sixes and fours at will, and was yet again the most destructive batsman in the league.

Although he is not going to feature in the playoffs, his tally of 733 runs is not likely to be surpassed by anyone. He deserves to win the Orange Cap (which is in his possession anyway) yet again!

    RR - Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane was one-half of the most successful opening combination of IPL 2012 along with his skipper Rahul Dravid. This young Mumbai batsman is undoubtedly a future India star, and will most likely fill the void left behind by Dravid in Team India. For now though, he's content lighting up scoreboards in the IPL--and how!

Incidentally, Rahane scored 560 runs this season; this included a stunning century as well!
