    Default 5 Unusual Olympic Sports

    Roller Hockey

Ever thought of playing hockey on skates--and we mean quad skates? If so, roller hockey is what you're looking for. While some call it ice hockey on wheels, the rest call it field hockey in a rink. Either way, this sport failed to create enough of a buzz at the 1992 Barcelona Games, and never featured in the Olympics again!

    Pesapallo

This Finnish version of baseball is a cross between cricket and American baseball. It involves participants playing on zigzag bases and trying to score more runs than the opposing team. This game was tried out at the 1952 Helsinki Games, but failed to catch on.

While it's not the same as baseball, it's not different enough to warrant a separate Olympic slot!

    Live Pigeon Shooting

This barbaric sport was a part of the 1900 Games, after which it was promptly--and thankfully--discontinued. In this event, live pigeon targets were released in front of the shooters, who then stayed in the reckoning until they missed twice! Even describing it makes us queasy!

In all, about 300 birds were killed during this grisly display!

    Kaatsen

Kaatsen or Frisian handball is a fairly popular sport in northern Holland. Alas, it failed to make a similar impact on the Olympics. This strange three-player sport simply couldn't generate enough interest or competitors from various nations for it to be Olympic-worthy on a regular basis!

As a result, its only Olympic appearance was when it was given a trial run at the 1928 Amsterdam Games.

    Skijoring

'Skijoring' is Norwegian for ski driving, which is exactly what this unusual former Olympic sport is! The 1928 Winter Games featured a skijoring competition--but only as a demonstration sport! This competition involved horses dragging racers on skis through an elaborate snow course.

However, 1928 was also the only time it featured in the Olympics
