Default 5 Reasons To Watch Federer vs Murray

No male British player has won the Wimbledon singles title in the Open Era (since 1968). Scotsman, Andy Murray could rewrite history should he manage to overcome his higher-ranked opponent tonight. The last time a Briton won the men's title at the All England Club was back in 1936, when the legendary Fred Perry won his third straight title.

The last time Roger Federer won a Grand Slam was at the Australian Open on January 31, 2010. The over two and a half year gap since is the longest between two Grand Slam wins for the Swiss maestro. He has won a major in every calendar year, except 2011, since he won his first at Wimbledon in 2003. So, you know something's got to give tonight!

Besides, the last time Federer won a Grand Slam, his opponent in the finals was--you guessed it--Andy Murray!

Federer already leads the all-time list of Grand Slam winners with a total of 16 major titles under his belt. A win here will add an unprecedented 17th Grand Slam to his kitty, and further seal his legacy as one of the--if not the--greatest of all time.

Roger Federer will be chasing his seventh Wimbledon title, and in the process, will be looking to equal Pete Sampras' record at the All England Club. This would be a truly special achievement for Federer, given that his Grand Slam-winning journey started at the hallowed center court of Wimbledon a decade ago against Sampras!

Roger Federer will retain his long-lost No.1 spot should he win here tonight. He has been at the top of the ATP rankings for a total of 285 weeks during his stellar career--which is just one week short of Pete Sampras' all-time record of 286 weeks. Federer already holds the record of most consecutive weeks at No.1, which is 237 (that's over four and a half years!)

So, be sure to watch what is bound to be one heck of a tennis match in which history will be created one way or another.
