    International Olympic Committee suspends India

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the official announcement hadn't been made yet.

    Times of India

LAUSANNE (Switzerland): Two officials with knowledge of the decision say the IOC has suspended India's national Olympic committee because of government interference.

The officials said that the IOC executive board imposed the sanctions on Tuesday after the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) failed to comply with the world body's rules on the holding of elections.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the official announcement hadn't been made yet.

The IOC had repeatedly told the Indian body to adhere to its own constitution and the Olympic Charter and not follow the government's sports code for Wednesday's elections.

Suspension means the Indian body will stop receiving IOC funding and its officials will be banned from attending Olympic meetings and events.

India's athletes will be barred from competing in Olympic events under their national flag.

this will be resolved no doubt about that.
but, to have gone this far and being suspended is a big shame in the history books.
after all the govt have let down the 1000s of athletes and this emphasizes all india want is cricket.
if this was ICC, and indians would have gone to streets with protests. even the media or social media. one of the biggest shame ever.

Indian Olympic Association should not live in pressure of those foreigners. Its our method of working why they are interfering, its matter of national pride. India should appoint Kalmadi as life time president of IOA.

India should starts its own Olympics in competition to IOC. We can win lot of medals in our own Olympics.

    Athletes anxious following IOA's suspension

Top athletes were quick to share their disappointment after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) due to government interference.
Shooter Abhinav Bindra, India's sole individual gold medallist at the Olympics, tweeted: "Bye Bye IOA, hope to see u again soon, hopefully cleaner!"
Boxer MC Mary Kom, who won a bronze at the London Olympics, said it would be difficult for her to compete without knowing the fate of Indian sports.
"I do not know much about this (suspension). I don't have a good feeling about this. I will not be able to give my 100 percent without the Indian flag," said Mary Kom, suggesting India's possible exclusion from the major sporting events.
Veteran tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi had this to say: "So I got banned, now the IOA gets banned, they says things like these normally happen in three's.. Wonder what's next!!"
Former Indian cricekter Bishan Singh Bedi asked on his twitter page: "What is worse -IOA, IOC or IPL?! Please come forward with constructive response. Remember the sportspersons' involvement is strictly at stake. Thanks."
With the suspension, India is now in a dubious list that includes Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan.

CSI says IOC suspension result of corrupt people coming in IOA
Clean Sports India, a movement for corruption-free sports in the country, today welcomed the suspension of the IOA by International Olympic Committee, saying that the IOC's decision was prompted by tainted people taking up top posts in the national Olympic body. Speaking to PTI from London, CSI Convener B V P Rao said that the IOA was to be blamed for its suspension as it had not acted for long against people who were allegedly involved in corruption.
"It is a historic opportunity for the country to discuss, debate and reform the sporting structures of India. It's time for sportsperson to come and set the house in order," he said.

"CSI is the of the view that IOC essentially made the decision on IOA attitude to encourage known corrupt people to lead Olympic Movement in India. IOC sincerely thought IOA will take some action on Suresh Kalmadi and Lalit Bhanot. "But instead of taking action, acting president Malhotra led the IOA for last two years to encourage people like Bhanot to contest and get elected as Secretary General. All other reasons for suspension are mere technical," Rao said.
Rao said IOA should amend its constitution to incorporate the age and tenure rules of the government's Sports Code and hold a fresh elections.
"Since almost all federations, except Archery and Boxing, have accepted Sports Code, the sportsperson will get benefits like coaching camps and competition grants from the government," he said.

International body suspends Indian Boxing Federation -

In a massive jolt to boxing in India, the International Boxing Association has suspended the IABF alleging "possible manipulation" in its recent elections but the body has denied the charge, insisting that the process was "transparent".

The development which has left the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) "stunned" comes within a few days of the International Olympic Committee suspending the Indian Olympic Association.
"Further to the International Olympic Committee's suspension imposed on the Indian Olympic Association, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Executive Committee Bureau has decided today December 6 to provisionally suspend the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF)," the AIBA said in a statement.
This provisional suspension is also due to the fact that AIBA had learned about possible manipulation of the recent IABF's election. "AIBA will now investigate this election and especially a potential political link between IOA President, as former Chairman of the IABF, and the IABF election," it added.
During the September elections, outgoing President Abhay Singh Chautala, who was elected IOA President despite IOC's suspension, was retained in the body as nominated Chairman of the body.
The development now also puts a question mark over Chautala's election as IOA President since he came into the fray as an IABF representative. Interestingly, his brother-in-law and BJP MLA from Rajasthan, Abhishek Matoria, was elected as the new IABF President.
Stunned by the suspension, Matoria said that the world body had been apprised of the election process in detail.
"AIBA had specific queries about the election process and we had explained to them that there was no manipulation. Those who got elected were unanimous choices and just because there was unanimity, the AIBA cannot allege manipulation," Matoria told PTI.
"This is a provisional suspension and I am sure it would be lifted soon after we explain our stand to AIBA. If need be, I will personally go and speak to AIBA officials in Lausanne," Matoria said.
"Our boxers are not threatened by any repercussions for the time being because the next major AIBA event is quite far and the matter will be resolved by then," he added. The next AIBA event is the Junior World Championships in August next year, followed by the senior World Championships in October.
A senior IABF functionary told PTI that there might be a re-election. "Let's wait and see. Maybe there would have to be a re-election in a proper manner with AIBA Observer being present," he said.
In the September IABF elections, the body had been left in a fix after the Sports Ministry barred it from making constitutional changes that could have facilitated continuation of the incumbent set of office-bearers.
Meanwhile, the AIBA's decision came as a bolt from the blue for the boxers, many of whom are in the national camp in Patiala. "It is a sad day for Indian boxing and I can't understand how such a development can take place. I don't understand why the matter was not explained to AIBA," India's first Olympic medallist in the sport, Vijender Singh, said.
The Beijing Olympics bronze-medallist was, however, hopeful that the issue would be resolved soon. "The next AIBA event is quite far but hopefully we would not sit on it for too long and get the suspension revoked as soon as possible," he said.
