With the exception of a few, celebrity relationships have never been known to last long. In fact, break-ups are all too common in the celebrity world. This year, too, saw its fair share of celebrity break-ups. Here are the ones that shocked us the most.

Konkona Sen Sharma & Ranvir Shorey: We were pleasantly surprised when Konkona Sen Sharma got married to Ranvir Shorey in a hush-hush ceremony in 2010. But just two years into the marriage the couple decided to part ways. Shocker! We had never suspected trouble in paradise

Deepika Padukone & Siddharth Mallya: Deepika broke up with Siddharth Mallya in the beginning of the year. The couple looked like they were inseparable and were almost always spotted together. Siddharth was even rumoured to have showered Deepika with lavish gifts including a plush apartment in South Mumbai. The relationship apparently ended on a sour note.

Amy Jackson & Prateik Babbar: When actors Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson started dating each other, they painted the town red! They were seen together nearly everywhere and freely indulged in PDA. But Amy decided she wanted some space from her over possessive boyfriend Prateik who did not allow her to go on shoots on her own. They split in August 2012.

Prabhu Deva & Nayanthara: Nayanthara started dating Prabhu Deva nearly four years ago. She also put her movie plans on hold when the couple was planning to get married. The relationship however met an end early this year.

Heidi Klum & Seal: This one was probably one of the most shocking splits of the year. We expected the couple to last, considering they were married for seven years and always told of their love for each other in interviews to the media. But looks like Seal’s temper and his partying ways were too much for the ex-supermodel to take. The couple decided to part ways in January this year.

Johnny Depp & Vanessa Paradis: Johnny Depp broke up with his live-in partner of 14 years Vanessa Paradis in June this year. The split was amicable and the reason they cited was personal differences between the two. Depp apparently gave Paradis a huge settlement and a plush mansion in Los Angeles from where their two kids can go to school.

Hilary Swank & John Campisi: Actor Hilary Swank split from John Campisi, her boyfriend of five years in May 2012. Swank started dating her agent Campisi six months after her divorce from Chad Lowe. Reasons for the split aren’t clear.

Russell Crowe & Danielle Spencer: Actor Russell Crowe split from his wife of nine years Danielle Spencer in October 2012. Apparently, the actor frequently partying late into the night without his wife and his big ego is what caused the end of his marriage. Danielle will be walking away with a fat settlement of £15 million.

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes: This one probably has been the biggest spit of the year. Katie Holmes, apparently tired of following Tom Cruise and his Scientology ways, decided to end their five-year-old marriage. Katie according to sources couldn’t take it anymore when Tom decided to impose the ways of the Scientology church on their daughter Suri Cruise.
