Requiem For A Dream

One of the few movies that gives you a mental churning of the creepy kind, Requiem For A Dream leaves the viewer frozen in the place, blank and an endless void. And to the very few who may know, it was adopted from the acclaimed Hubert Selby Jr novel of the same name. The movie couldn't have done more justice than this, and clubbing that with an epic soundtrack and a stellar cast made Requiem For A Dream a cult in it's own way.

2001: A Space Odyssey

A movie that revolutionised space-age flicks and sc-fi in it's own way, 2001: A Space Odyssey was a groundbreaking movie in itself. As opposed to the common of the movie based on the novel, the screenplay was co-written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, and was partially inspired by Clarke's short story The Sentinel. Clarke concurrently wrote the novel of the same name which was published soon after the film was released.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

One of the most critically acclaimed movie series of the 21st century, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo saw a movie series adaptation and a Hollywood remake of the same. That's definitely a huge plus-point. The Swedish adaptation brought in few changes in the flick which didn't go down well with the purists, but the Hollywood remake did complete justice and got the world hoooked to this one.

The Green Mile

A movie starring Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan definitely has to be a good one. And even more so when it's adapted from a Stephen King movie of the same name! An intricate plot based on racism, supernatural events and paedophilia among the few gave the viewers and the readers a brilliant rendition of the book.

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory

The original rendition of Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory was a brilliant flick in itself, and yet the Johnny Depp version had an eerie atmosphere around it, as always is the case with his movies. And yes, it did justice to the book, and in a better way than the original one. The Gene Wilder version had many tweaks to the storyline resulting to a point where Dahl apparently refused to watch it! We give Depp's brilliant acting and the movie to stand up to the book.

Schindler's List

Spielberg’s version of Keneally’s novel Schindler’s Ark was immediately lauded as one of the greatest films about the Holocaust. Even if it were not based on a true story, Schindler’s saving of more than a thousand Jews would be awesome. This seven Oscar-winning creation may never been beaten.

To Kill A Mockingbird

The film of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about racist Alabama deservedly won three Oscars, including Best Actor for Gregory Peck as the lawyer Atticus Finch. Including a fictionalised version of Lee’s friend Truman Capote, this compelling and important work has lost none of its power since its release.

The Bourne Series

A Robert Ludlum thriller book series is full of twists and turns and systematic chaos everywhere. Espionage, CIA, guns, and assassinations are his playtoys, and boy, does he play with them! The Bourne Series is regarded as some of the best works in the genre of spy thriller books and the movie starring Matt Damon as a cold-blooded CIA assassin, and he delivers it consistently throughout the three flicks. Let's hope some more of Ludlum's works get an apt movie adaptation they rightfully deserve.

Ian Fleming's suave and man of mystery, MI6's secret agent 007 was hailed as the nerd's dreamjob. And the books spurned out some of the best flicks in tow and lived upto the reputation of Fleming's books definitely caught the world's attention. Even more so was the consistent acting by Sean Connery, Roger Moore, the cars, the gadgets and the babes that made the series as captivating as they are today!

This chiseled Brad Pitt starring movie based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk. A box-office bummer, Fight Club failed to generate enough hoopla during it's opening but the DVD release brought it the well-deserved fame and has been tagged as a cult ever since.

Lord Of The Rings Series

J.R.R. Tolkein would be proud to see his books being rendered in some of the most beautiful, breath-taking, and gripping series of the recent times. Hailed as the Star Wars of the 21st century, LOTR garnered a strong foothold amongst a hardcore fandom, and rightly so! Directed by Peter Jackson, and clubbed with a brilliant star-cast, the LOTR movie series painted an intricate picture and captured every imagination of J.R.R. Tolkein in it's totality.
