Birthday Exclusive: Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan
Bollywood's beloved Aamir Khan turns 48 today!
One of Bollywood’s most enigmatic actors - Aamir Khan was born on March 14, 1965 to Tahir Hussain, a Hindi film producer.
Since a young age, Aamir knew his heart was in the movies. He made his debut in Ketan Mehta’s Holi but it was Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak that catapulted him to fame
He soon climbed the ladder with his incredible acting prowess. “Aamir is a living legend. He has a beautiful mind and he definitely is one of the finest actors of all time,” said Kareena Kapoor in an interview.
After doing a host of memorable movies like 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar,' 'Rangeela,' 'Raja Hindustani,' 'Ghulam' and 'Sarfarosh,' 'Lagaan' was his big ticket to the Oscars.
Aamir has always shunned accepting Indian film awards as he doubts the authenticity of it. He received his last Filmfare award for 'Taare Zameen Par' in 2008.
Aamir married Reena Dutta his childhood sweetheart in 1982 and the couple separated after being together for 20 years. Reena made an appearance in the song ‘Papa Kehte Hain’ in QSQT.
Unlike other stars who have three to four releases every year, Aamir has one big movie releasing in a year. His movies 'Ghajini,' 'Taare Zameen Par,' 'Delhi Belly' and '3-Idiots' have gone on to become big hits.
One tag that refuses to leave Aamir is that of a perfectionist who is willing to go to any length to make his characters more intriguing. Aamir worked doubly hard to acquire a mean physique for his role in 'Ghajini.'
Aamir met his current wife – Kiran Rao on the sets of 'Lagaan.' The couple courted for a while before tying the knot in 2005. The couple have an odd chemistry that works.
'Dhobi Ghat,' directed by Kiran Rao, had Aamir playing the lead. The documentary-style movie was critically acclaimed for its aesthetic sensibilities, but it bombed at the box office.
Aamir was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in the year 2003 and Padma Bhushan in 2010 by the Government of India for his contribution to cinema.
The year 2011 was special for Aamir and his wife Kiran, as they had their first child - Azad Rao Khan - through IVF surrogacy. Aamir named his son Azad in memory of his great grand uncle and freedom fighter - Maulana Azad.
Apart from being a great actor, husband and dad; Aamir is also a big philanthropist. His show Satyamev Jayate addressed some of the pressing issues plaguing the society.
"I really admire the work that Aamir Khan is doing in India. Very few celebrities take the initiative of coming forward to change the society and he has done a remarkable job. It's the 'giving-back' that's tough.” Said Hollywood Actor Tom Hanks in an interview.
