Brendan Shanahan was 18 when the New Jersey Devils drafted him second overall in 1987. He made the Devils in his first training camp and played four seasons in New Jersey. Twenty-two years after he broke in, he would return to the Devils for one last season.

Shanahan only spent four seasons with the St. Louis Blues, but they were the most productive individual campaigns of his career. He reached the 50-goal plateau twice, with 51 in 1992-93 and 52 in 1993-94. The latter year also marked his only 100-point season.
