Default Shami tested the Bangladesh batsmen early on

Mushfiqur Rahim led from the front with a sparkling hundred as Bangladesh overcame early jitters to post a healthy 279 for seven against India in their Asia Cup match, at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, in Fatullah, on Wednesday.

Earlier, India skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to field.

The first hour was a testing time for the Bangladesh openers as Mohammed Shami, who finished with four wickets, bowled a tight line and length.
Persisting with an off-stump line, he found some outside edges that went in the vacant slip region as Anamul Haque and Shamsur Rahman batted tentatively, before Shami got the desired result. His short delivery was mistimed by Shamsur Rahman (7) and played back for an easy catch to the bowler.

After India skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first, the first hour was a testing time for the openers as Mohammed Shami, who finished with four wickets, bowled a tight line and length.

Mushfiqur, who smashed 117 off 113 balls, was hit on his ribs by a nasty beamer from Varun Aaron. However, the diminutive captain showed enough resilience to complete his second ODI century.

It was a first for Bangladesh against India since Alok Kapali's ton in the 2008 Asia Cup.
The 25-year-old started his innings patiently with Animul going freely at the other end, but after the opener's dismissal, the skipper came into his own, hitting two sixes and seven fours.

Anamul and Mushfiqur laid the foundation for a substantial total.
The duo was involved in a 133-run third wicket partnership that came after Bangladesh were reduced to 49 for two in the 13th over.
Despite the big partnership, though, the lower order failed to fire against a side that boasts of a strong batting line-up.

The innings then belonged to Mushfiqur, who showed resolute spirit despite being hit badly to complete the milestone century for Bangladesh.

It was his second career century, and a timely one at that.
It was also the 25-year-old's highest ODI score, besting his 101.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma opened the Indian innings cautiously, but just when they appeared to have settled down Abdur Razzaq dealt the first blow, dismissing the former for 28 off 44 balls that included five fours.
Looking to sweep the ball, Dhawan missed the line and was trapped plumb in front of the stumps.

Default Akmal's ton rallies Pakistan against Afghanistan

Young wicketkeeper-batsman Umar Akmal hit a scintillating century as Pakistan rallied from a precarious position to put up a competitive 248 for eight in their Asia Cup match against Afghanistan, Fatullah, on Thursday.

He smashed 102 off 89 balls after Afghanistan won the toss and reduced Pakistan to 117 for six inside 30 overs, on a sluggish pitch at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

Akmal reached the three-figure mark with a huge six off the penultimate ball of the innings.
The 23-year-old, who scored 74 off 72 against Sri Lanka in the last match, clobbered three sixes and seven boundaries.
Opener Ahmed Shehzad (50) and Sharjeel Khan got Pakistan off to a fine start, compiling 55 runs for the opening wicket before the latter was scalped for 25 off 37 balls, including two fours and a six.
Next batsman Mohammad Hafeez (10) joined hands with Shehzad, but the duo could only add 23 runs before Mirwais Ashraf sent Hafeez back to the pavilion.
Shehzad's departure triggered a mini collapse, and from 89 for two Pakistan slumped to 117 for six, losing four wickets for a mere 28 runs.
The Asia Cup debutants dismissed Sohaib Maqsood (13), skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (0) and all-rounder Shahid Afridi (6) and had Pakistan in a spot of bother.
While leg-spinner Samiullah Shenwari cleaned up Shehzad, who hit seven fours in his half-century, Misbah was unlucky to be run-out without facing a ball, and Afridi missed a slog only to find his off-stump uprooted by pacer Dawlat Zadran.
But Akmal continued with his good form and guided Pakistan to a respectable total.
He added 60 runs with Anwar Ali (21 off 36 balls) for the seventh wicket to calm down nerves in the Pakistan dressing room and followed it with a 50-run stand with Umar Gul (15).
The Afghanistan bowlers were wayward in the latter part of the innings, conceding 84 runs in the last 10 overs.
Mirwais Ashraf was the pick of the Afghanistan bowlers, conceding just 29 runs in his eight overs and grabbing two wickets.
Shenwari (2-34) and Dawlat Zadran (2-73) also picked two wickets each, while Hamza Hotak (1-22) chipped in with one.
