Top supermodel turned film actor Gautam Kapoor of MY BROTHER NIKHIL Fame is very kicked about his role in the eagerly anticipated Anurag Basu's METRO where he plays an unconventional role of a Radio Jockey, called Vishy K opposite Konkana Sen Sharma.
And so professional is our dude that he spent a considerable amount of time at a well-known radio station researching his role! Gautam actually analyzed the whole radio set-up, where the RJs sit, how they speak, the machines to work with, all that is required of an RJ to do and had blast with the RJs themselves.
The effort definitely paid off as his co-stars and unit members were left quite stunned when he performed his scenes effortlessly! 'The radio station visit was a fabulous experience, not just for my role, but as for my personal knowledge as well. As I am new to the film industry and eager to learn everything I can get my hands on!' informs the actor.
Now that's what we call homework! Watch out for this aspiring actor as METRO releases on May 11
The magic, mystique, and music of Bollywood arrives in the Chicago area when A R Rahman, superstar Indian composer of Broadway’s BOMBAY DREAMS and over 70 films, makes his Midwest concert debut at the Sears Centre, 5333 Prairie Stone Parkway, Hoffman Estates, for one night only, Saturday, June 9, at 8 p.m.
Hailed by Time Magazine as the ‘Mozart of Madras’, A R Rahman is one of the most successful artistes of all time, redefining contemporary Indian music. In a country where film music is the most popular form of music, A R Rahman reigns supreme having sold close to 200 million albums.
For one night only, A R Rahman will take his audience on a trip across the seas and distant lands revealing the exotic, sensuous and vibrant culture of India. With an ensemble of more than 45 musicians, 12 singers and 20 dancers direct from India, A R Rahman will transcend musical genres by fusing folk music from China, India and Turkey as well as pop, rock, jazz, Broadway and classical music, to give audience members the opportunity to experience the real meaning of eclectic world music. This concert will feature works scored for the Broadway hit-musical Bombay Dreams and the musical Lord of the Rings (currently at the Theater Royal Drury Lane in London), as well as classical music and songs from several Bollywood and western movies.
Dissolving cultural boundaries and music genres, A R Rahman leads musicians, singers and dancers on a bold and intoxicating quest to wow audience members, both young and old, with one of the most thrilling concert spectacles Chicagoland has seen! Not for the faint-of-heart, this concert will also include a laser and 3-D light show as well as pyrotechnics.
Producer Firoz Nadiadwala seems to be in the boxing ring already, fighting to ensure that the former world champion boxer, Mike Tyson, comes to India for a brief appearance in his FOOL N FINAL.
Apparently, signing Tyson for his film, was a lot easier than bringing him here. Tyson is facing a number of legal cases and creditors in US and just getting him to travel to India involves obtaining various permissions from the American government.
The boxer travels with his own security guard, a solicitor and an interpreter, and all of them have to be provided 5-star treatment. Merely booking a suit for Tyson is not enough. He needs the entire floor to be reserved for his entourage. Coming to Tyson’s eating preferences, he just cannot handle spicy food, so he is also getting his cook along with him!
Firoz may think that he has asked for more trouble than he can handle by getting Tyson here, so he has assembled a contingent of 20 security guards to keep Tyson protected. Which is all very well, except for a minor problem. Who will protect his security guards from Mike Tyson?
nice thread Samir !!!
gr8 going ... keep up the good work.

Amongst all the high-flying thrills and frills of Bollywood comes one very bitter sweet little film that promises to entertain one and all – CHEENI KUM. This punchy romantic comedy is produced by Sunil Manchandani and written/directed by R Balki, with Amitabh Bachchan, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, and Zohra Segal making up the veteran cast.
CHEENI KUM revolves around Buddhadev Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan), a 64 year old chef who cares for absolutely nothing in life except his cooking. He lives a completely sugar-less life (hence the title) which volleyballs between his job and his equally bitter 85 year old Mother, played by none other than Zohra Sehgal.
Although he owns London’s largest and most successful Indian restaurant, Gupta is unable to find that flame of happiness within him. Amidst his comically bitter relationship with his mother and his one-dimensional passion for cooking, Buddhadev finds solace in one and only one person, 9 year old neighbour (played by Swini Khara), with whom he shares all his stories, feelings, and emotions. For this young girl is plagued with the ailment of Lukhemia, and Gupta fears she will not age to see films with Adult Certification.
Reacting to the recent reports about CASH being delayed by a couple of weeks, director Anubhav Sinha says that it is not entirely true. "Yes, we have been thinking about coming a little late but nothing has been confirmed as yet", discloses Sinha, "For all practical purposes, we could come even a week earlier or later but that's about it."
But why doubts around the release schedule when June 29th was penciled in as the day of film's release? "It's not really about being in doubt", he explains, "We are contemplating another date since there is an overflow of films which are looking at arriving on the said Friday. Good sense says that the clash should be averted."
How about the film in itself? Has it been completed and wrapped? "Yes, it is", Anubhav says, "From my end the film is ready for release and it is now up to ADLABS to finalize the release schedule. I am informed that we would be coming either on June 22nd [a week after JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM] or July 06 (the same day when DHOL is expected to arrive)."
Tell him that hardcore action lovers are waiting for his films and he smiles, "Yes, I am aware that people are really looking forward to the film. It has been a while since a hardcore action/thriller came and CASH should certainly fit in the bill. The film's promos would be aired from today along with SPIDERMAN 3 and I am looking forward to audience's reaction."
A while back there were also talks about the film being given an extra attention during postproduction. "That's true", he says excitedly, "We wanted to make CASH a never-before-witnessed experience, both from Hollywood as well as Bollywood cine-viewing perspective. I believe that the kind of happenings on the screen would wow the audience and result in an adrenalin rush in a big way!"
Call it a coincidence but a number of actors are having two of their films releasing quite close to each other or worse even on the same day.
Tanushree Dutta has her GOOD BOY BAD BOY and RAQEEB spaced apart only by a week, ditto for Sharman Joshi whose METRO and RAQEEB come on back-to-back weeks. Tusshar too has GOOD BOY BAD BOY and SHOOT OUT AT LOKAHNDWALA within 2 weeks of each other while Viveik Oberoi has back-to-back releases in the form of SOAL and FOOL N FINAL.
The buck doesn't stop here as Amitabh Bachchan has two of his films coming on the same day with his CHEENI KUM competing with SOAL. Neha Dhupia sees herself in a lead role in EK CHALIS KI LAST LOCAL and later finds herself in a high profile crowd in SOAL a week later.
Thankfully the makers of THE TRAIN were quick to realize that two films starring Emraan Hashmi [the other being GOOD BOY BAD BOY] coming on back to back weeks didn't quite make much sense and hence were first to respectfully back out and re-plan an arrival on June 8. Now they enjoy a sole release on June 08!
One now looks forward to see if makers of NAQAB and NANHE think on the same lines too. Reason? Both the films star Bobby Deol in the lead and are planning to come together on July 20th! While NANHE is directed by Sameer Karnik who made his debut with KYUN HO GAYA NAA a few seasons back, NAQAB is a bona fide thriller by the masters Abbas-Mustan.
It has to be noticed though that NAQAB has just announced its release plan whereas NANHE has been ready since last year but is waiting to get the right release platform for itself!
Though it is all but certain that one of the films would opt for a later day, the question is which of the two would take the first step?
Even before she began to walk Geeta Basra learnt to use the videocassette recorder and put a video in to watch films. Her first performance on stage was when she was only two years old. She is an ardent fan of Madhuri Dixit for many years now and performed on Madhuri numbers many times. Madhuri Dixit influenced Geeta Basra's talent as an actress and dancer. Geeta Basra used to watch Madhuri's movies from childhood and tried to imitate them. When Main MADHURI DIXIT BANNA CHAHTI HUN was being made Geeta Basra was dying to play that role but; could not make her dream come true since she was still at Portsmouth, UK.
Bollywood is Geeta Basra's dream ever since she started to dream. As long as she can, she will continue in this field. She has learnt form her experiences and still dreams to become a glittering star like Madhuri Dixit in the skies of Bollywood. Geeta says, "Yes I am an ardent fan of Madhuri ever since I was a little child. She is definitely is a complete package of the term actress and I feel privileged to be a part of the same industry as her."
For the first time Hollywood has seen potential in Bollywood content meaning the ‘latka’ and ‘jhatkas’ and will release this animation content globally in various languages.
Out of PNC's boutique of Bollywood Calling, Sur, Mystic Masseur, Kaante, Jhankar Beats, Chameli, Ek Khiladi Ek Hasseena, Hazaaroon Khwaisehi Aisi and Pyaar Ke Side Effects they would choose three films to animate.
Pritish Nandy Communications has signed a 5-film deal with Motion Pixel Corporation, the Florida-based animation company with one of the world's best animation studios Estudio Flex in Costa Rica. The exclusive deal between the two companies includes five 3D animated full-length Bollywood feature films with Indian and international actors, songs, dances, item numbers and everything that Bollywood is special for. The first of these five films is currently in production and is a version 2.0 of one of PNC's most successful live action films.
It’s a $25 Million US Dollars Deal. The deal will see PNC handle the creative aspects of these animated films from the development of scripts, movie soundtracks, including contracting top Bollywood and international stars to do voice-overs for the animated characters. MPC will handle all components of the animation through Estudio Flex.
MPC senior executives commented, "We are excited to launch with a company of the stature of PNC that knows and understands the Indian market domestically as well as globally." The Bollywood film industry is one of the fastest growing film segments in the world, producing over 300 feature films a year. The animation market is a new extension of this industry and could see Bollywood's turnover multiply many times over simply by creating international language versions of what are essentially successful Bollywood movies. These five movies will, for instance, be put out in many languages of the world as well as in several Indian language versions.
Manny Bains, Chairman of MPC, comments "We are extremely excited to be working with PNC, an industry leader in Bollywood and my good friend Pritish Nandy. Our commitment is evident by working exclusively together in this area for years to come. We believe that taking both the multi-billion dollar animation sector and the ever growing global Bollywood market ahead in tandem could well surpass all industry expectations."
Pritish Nandy of PNC, shares the same vision. "We have seen some of the animation work done by Manny and his team at MPC and they will totally redefine what we know as animation movies in India. These are not kid flicks like Hanuman and Krishna. These are movies that everyone will watch, irrespective of their age and language preference. From action movies to romances to comedies and horror, we will cover every genre out here and surprise the Indian market with the quality and imagination that MPC's animation skills will provide these films. This is the first of its kind and you will now see Bollywood movies truly going global instead of attempting the usual crossover experiments. This is going to be a genre by itself."
The first of these joint venture animation movies is expected to be ready for release in the first half of 2008
All eyes are set on June-end release AWARAPAN that brings together Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt, Emraan Hashmi, Mohit Suri, Pritam and Sayeed Quadri again. With so much to boast in terms of credentials, it would require an extraordinary effort by anyone else associated with the film to get noticed. Young Rehan actor, who is in his early 20s, may just about do that!
Touted to be the surprise package of the film, Rehan is integral to the film's plot. Well, no one would actually dispute that because a film coming from the house of Bhatts is always known for well-etched characters. What one looks forward though is to see how Rehan has molded himself in AWARAPAN after a decent debut in JAANA - LET'S FALL IN LOVE, which released last year.
While he played a lead character in his home production, he has gone ahead and taken a risk by starring in a film that has Emraan Hahsmi in the main lead. All of this makes his job much more exciting and challenging, albeit risky, since a project like this would mean a lot to his innings ahead.
As per insiders, Rehan has done quite well and impressed the big daddies [Bhatt brothers] with his act. As for Rehan, he only says modestly, "I had to do well in the film, simple. You can't afford to miss an opportunity like this and after being a part of AWARAPAN I now fully understand why actors love to work with Bhatts!"
Every child in Mumbai city seems to be humming and dancing to one tune... that of Mahalakshmi Iyer's song Ta Ra Ma & Pa from Yash Raj productions TA RA RUM PUM. Mahalakshmi's rendition of this perky animated song not just gets heartthrob Saif and the bubbly Rani to boogie along with their on screen kids but does get Ma bear, Pa bear and baby bears to dance to her jingle too. This young multitalented singer seems to have become the new hot favorite amongst the Yash Raj team from having sung chart busters in Saalam Namaste, Bunty aur Babli, Fanaa, Dhoom 2 and now this. Is she their lucky mascot???
Salman Khan's true blue Hollywood movie, MARIGOLD, which also features Ali Lartar, Nandana Sen, Gulshan Grover and Helen, has been in the news right from the day of its launch. The music of the Willard Carrol directed film was in focus last year, when one of the composers of MARIGOLD, Shankar Mahadevan talked highly about some unique tunes and sounds.
With so many Bollywood links and our very own Farah Khan, Remo and Vaibhavi Merchant doing the choreography and Anuradha Singh the editing, it was but obvious that MARIGOLD would be dubbed in Hindi, something denied earlier.
The film has been complete for a while and there is a lot of curiosity about its likely release date. So here we are, as per the latest information available with us, the English and the dubbed Hindi version of MARIGOLD is likely to release around mid July.
For those who do not know, the unit of the Imtiaz Ali directed Shahid-Kareena film, titled TRAIN, has been in the picturesque hill station of Kullu-Manali from April end. The major stars, including the lead pair are putting up at the famous Span Resorts.
Now we bring you an almost 'live' scoop about TRAIN, straight from the shooting venue. As you are reading this, Imtiaz is picturising a song sequence on Shahid and Kareena (dressed up in traditional Kullu dresses), in the Naggar Panchayat, Dharohan village to be exact.
As per the film's local coordinator Anil Kastha, the Historic Naggar fort (overlooking the Beas river), now being run by HPTDC (Himachal Pradesh Tourism Corporation) as a resort, has been fully booked for the Naggar shooting schedule.
A thing about the song being picturised. It is supposed to be at the ancient 'Shaari' fair of Naggar (which will actually commence from May 18) and an exact ambience of the fair has been created. The song being canned will come at a very important juncture in the film.
The TRAIN will halt in Kullu-Manali till the end of this month and then leave for the Himachal Pradesh capital, Shimla.
