    Default About Lead India campaign

    India Poised to India Realised
India appears to be facing a crisis of leadership. Public governance has all but collapsed. In critical areas such as public administration, education and healthcare, there's little or no confidence left in government's ability to deliver a modicum of service without having to grease a few palms. Corruption is endemic, the bureaucracy is a shadow of what it once was, and the political class for most part appears to have neither the vision nor the ability nor the stomach nor even the inclination to fix the system.

Readers may recall that at the time of launch of our India Poised initiative on January 1, the one recurring theme that unfortunately kept coming through in almost every one of our analyses, was the abysmal state of public governance. Roads built at great cost begin to resemble the moon's surface within months, and yet the same contractors are given the job to repair them (at a price); our municipal schools are not equipped to impart even basic education; open spaces meant for a city's citizenry are being quietly hawked to private builders in complete disregard of land use laws; there's little or no trust in the police; the justice system creaks; public hospitals don't even offer hygienic conditions forget healthcare; a large part of the money that's shown on paper as having been spent on floods and other calamities, never reaches the people who need it most; news of farmer suicides is now met with a helpless shrug; and for all the taxes we pay, nothing comes back in the form of social security.

India is at a stage in its life where it's poised for greater glory. This sounds like a cliché, but the potential is truly limitless. What we need to do is move from India Poised to India Realised. We need to find the right buttons. We believe the multiplier effect of good governance will be mind-boggling. And it's the traditionally disenfranchised and neglected sections of society who stand to benefit the most --- people who survive on the margins of society, who have no access to housing, healthcare, education or even justice. The elite of our society can find ways around poor governance --- they can send their children to expensive schools and colleges at home or abroad; same with medical treatment; and they are less exposed to the injustices of the system compared to that child or woman who calls the pavement her home. But as a nation, true progress will continue to elude us until such time as we can integrate at least an overwhelming number of our people into the mainstream.

The need of the hour is leadership. The Times of India's Lead India campaignis a small step in that direction. Even if it helps focus the attention of our 10 million readers to this need, we will have done our job. We hope there are at least a few hundred readers among the millions who are ready to stand up and be counted. This could well be your moment.

yah......The matter is of great concerned........

To get our country on right track.....it needs good politicians......

But as on date if we do a survey amongest the yougstars may be hardly 3%

will go for doing politics......So how com we get good people...in politics...

So the mindset has to be changed.....unless nothing is going to happen

rather the situtation will become more worsen.......

Really it's difficult to impliment till the thinking is not changed...
