Default Will India break Hockey World Cup jinx?

Weighed down by history and an unpredictable form, India would get another chance to improve their track record in the World Cup hockey tournament when they launch their campaign in the premier hockey competition today. India takes on host Germany in the opening match.

Both India and Germany are under severe criticism for their lackluster performance in the past few years. Interestingly, Germany is the defending champion while India won the World Cup only once in 1975.

Interestingly, German team has only five players that clinched the World Cup in Kuala Lumpur four years back. The current German team is young and inexperienced and they have failed to win an event since the World Cup in 2002. But Germans have always been a formidable opponent especially for India.

India are hampered by the absence of star penalty-corner striker Sandeep Singh, who suffered an unfortunate bullet injury last month.

With a refurbished Indian team and a new coach in Vasudevan Baskaran, Dilip Tirkey's men will also have to contend with Champions Trophy winners the Netherlands, grouped along with India in Pool B.

No way, India won't be able to do much till the Indian Hockey Federation has the super cop heading it. He is better off handling guns and not hockeys. He failed when he used his hands on a bureaucrat. Hockey is surely not his glass of scotch.
