Nicole Kidman is a true chameleon, having nailed most of the roles she has played. From doomed writer or Stepford wife to witch and courtisane, she has proven that her many faces run the gamut of colorful characters. But pretty soon she will be facing a new and unfamiliar challenge: a dude. (Well, sort of.)

Nicole Kidman is set to play a transexual in her upcoming movie called The Danish Girl, which she is also producing. The film is based on a true story, and it actually sounds fascinating: A Danish male artist poses as a woman for his wife (also an artist). The portraits gain a lot of attention, so the husband begins dressing as a woman, and finally - in the truly controversial spin - undergoes a sex-change operation. Incredibly, this all happened in the late 1920s and early '30s, so the aftermath was, predictably, dramatic.

Kidman will play the husband Einar, and the character of the wife Greta will be portrayed by Charlize Theron. They are both women, both beautiful, and both Oscar-winners, so the new onscreen marriage will likely generate some buzz.
